The presidential delegation led by SAICE 2018 President Errol Kerst and CEO Manglin Pillay recently made a stop in the Bloemfontein region from 15-16 May as part of their nationwide tour. Day one of the visit saw them spend some time at the Central University of Technology, where they took the time to meet with Civil Engineering HOD Professor Das and his staff to discuss issues and challenges within the department. President Kerst also addressed students on the importance of career pathing and engaging with industry from an early stage and shared anecdotes from his days as a university student. The delegation also met with committee members to discuss the initiatives the branch is involved in as well as attended a member’s breakfast event where he took time to field and respond to individual concerns, together with Manglin Pillay. To round off the visit the delegation undertook a courtesy visit to Proper Consulting where they engaged the organisations leadership in vigorous yet positive discussion pertaining issues facing the local industry and explored avenues for collaboration between SAICE and local membership to help alleviate them.
