SAICE President Errol Kerst embarked on the Algoa leg of the presidential branch visits from 1 -2 October 2018 where he met with members and local industry. On day one of the visit he met with Mr Victor Felton, Director of Infrastructure, Planning and Development at Kouga Municipality in Jeffrey’s Bay.

At the Algoa Branch members AGM he addressed members about the plans SAICE has to localize resources through strategic coordination to where members are concentrated to expand the reach and impact of the institution.

On day two of the visit, the president met with NMMU’s (North Campus) HOD of the Civil Engineering Department Mr Johann van der Merwe and members of his staff.

He also spent some time with Dr Walter Shaidi and key members of his management team at Nelson Bay Municipality. At the meeting, challenges faced by technical personnel within municipalities and how SAICE could assist to alleviate them where discussed.

President Errol Kerst also met with Marelise Verwey Nel and some key personnel at SANRAL Southern Region where discussions focused on strategic alignment of resources and avenues for collaboration between the two organisations to plug skills transfer challenges in the industry.

He wrapped up his visit to the region by meeting with Nazim Khan and key civil engineering personnel at the Department of Water Affairs.
