This year SAICE’s Johannesburg branch hosted its third annual Women in Hard Hats (WIHH) event at the Country Club in Auckland Park, on the 24th of August 2018. The event was a great success and saw approximately 100 guests in attendance. These included; 60  students from various student chapters as well as branch members.

Our dynamic key-note speakers included;  Ane Cromhout, Idah Deka, Tshepo Makgatho, Refilwe Lesufi and Sisanda Dyubhele, who addressed topics relevant to women in engineering, graduate engineers and students. Ane Cromhout spoke on the Engineering Sisterhood, whilst Idah Deka elaborated on Finding your Niche. Next, Tshepo Makgatho shared his experiences and advice about Entering the Job Market and What Graduates Needs to Know. Refilwe Lesufi addressed the Challenges of Starting and Running an Engineering Consulting Firm, whilst our surprise guest, Sisanda Dyubhele shared his knowledge on The Road to Professional Registration and the Advantages of Being Registered.

The day concluded with a networking session and a final address from the Golden sponsors of the event. A special thanks to our sponsors Sisi Safety Wear, UJ Civils and UJ Civil Tech Forum, for collaborating with us on this successful initiative which promotes women in the industry.

  1. Rather contact a branch committee member if you would like to partner with the branch regarding the Women in Hard Hats event.
