OBJECTIVES
- Honour members who have rendered outstanding service to the profession or has contributed to civil engineering
- To promote the practice of and excellence in civil engineering in the built environment professions
- To create and awareness of the contribution of civil engineering to the built environment
- To provide role models for young members
- To encourage leadership and entrepreneurship in civil engineering

Project Awards
The Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Project
- The Award for the Most Outstanding Civil Project (Technical Excellence)
- The Award for the Most Outstanding Civil Project (Community-based projects)
- The Award for the Most Outstanding Civil Project (International projects)The Award for the Most Outstanding Investigative /Report Studies
General:
The project will satisfy all or most of the following criteria:
- It should portray the art and science of civil engineering to the general public and indicate how the profession finds answers to challenging demands.
- It should be predominantly civil engineering in character.
- It need not necessarily be complete in all aspects, but the major engineering problems must have been overcome before the end of the year under review.
- The project should have current public appeal.
- Awards can be made to any size of the project. Projects which are unique or unusual, where the solution to a problem displays engineering ingenuity in analysis or design or has particular aesthetic appeal, where the handling of environmental impact and/or community involvement is particularly successful, or projects which mark some notable advance or innovation in construction techniques are eligible.
- Functional efficiency, economy and contribution to the service of mankind by the civil engineer must be demonstrated in the project.

AWARDS NOMINATION PROCEDURE
- SAICE members may submit nominations for the Awards using the online entry system
AWARDS ADJUDICATION PROCEDURE
Adjudication will be by a nominated panel of at least 5 and no more than 8 members, under the Chairmanship of the Chair of the Events Committee or a person nominated by the Events Committee.
The adjudication will be carried out based on the material submitted. The judges will select a winner and up to two runners up in each category. The finalist projects will be showcased at the National Awards where the winners will be announced.

Branch of the year award for most outstanding SAICE Branch
OBJECTIVE:
To give recognition to the Branch that has successfully advertised the SAICE brand within their region, and to honour their efforts in the industry. The branch is the ‘FACE OF SAICE’ in 21 regions across South Africa and it should be influential in impacting the lives of its members as well as building the SAICE brand in those particular regions. The winning Branch will be the Branch that has created a positive SAICE brand experience to its members, and achieved the goals set out for it.

BRANCH ACTIVITIES THAT COUNT TOWARDS THE FINAL DECISION:
Throughout the year the Branch should have done some of the following activities to increase the membership rate, share knowledge, transfer skills and network. These activities include:
- Technical meetings and site visits
- Formal dinners, social functions and award ceremonies
- Courses, conferences and seminars
- Career guidance initiatives
- Committee meetings to arrange and manage the Branch activities.
- Outreach programs including liaising with decision-makers and communities
- Other major achievements of the Branch which bring a strong positive focus on the Institution or profession may also be taken into account.

CRITERIA:
- The Branch strategy has to be in line with SAICE’s vision and mission but remain unique for the region
- Best practices in planning and objectives to set these achievements have to be met
- Implementation of tangible mechanisms to obtain Branch member feedback and the use of this information to improve the Branch
- Positively contributing to members’ Brand experience
- Demonstrating improvements in the past year, in terms of participation, influence and structures
- Successful campaigns and impacts that the Branch has hosted or presented

Student Chapter of the year award for most outstanding SAICE Student Chapter
OBJECTIVE:
To give recognition to the Student Chapter that has successfully advertised the SAICE brand at Universities and Universities of Technology across the country. The Student Chapter is the ‘Face of SAICE’ at these universities and sets an example of professional communication through its parent institution and SAICE. The winning Student Chapter would be the one that has had the most influence and impact on its members.

- Creative voice – ways of communicating (newsletters, communique – traditional and digital), and or various public forum platforms
- Successful events that took place throughout the year
- Resourcefulness with funds
- Encouraging new membershipÂ
- Positive contribution to student member brand experience
- Monitoring feedback through various mechanisms
- Outreach to promote the civil engineering industry to the general public and local community
- Professional engagement with local businesses and industry professionals

Division of the year award for most outstanding SAICE Division
OBJECTIVE:
To give recognition to the Division that has had a quantifiable impact on its members. The winning division would be recognised as the division that successfully interacted with divisional members, interest groups as well as government structures concerned with these specific fields.

DIVISION’S ACTIVITIES PROMOTE SAICE IN A POSITIVE LIGHT:
- To continually host technical meetings and site visits
- Host formal dinners, social functions and award ceremonies
- Present courses, conferences and seminars
- Liaise with associated organisations to take part in joint activities
- Active participation in outreach programs including liaisons with decision-makers and communities
- To promote all other major activities and achieve goals that will boost SAICE.
CRITERIA:
- The vision for the Division that has been developed by its relevant stakeholders and how it aligns with the vison of SAICE.Â
- Continuous research to obtain information and feedback from divisional members and then using this information to improve the Division
- Creating positive SAICE brand experiences which contribute to division member experience
- Demonstrating improvements in participation, influence and structures within the past year
- Successfully hosting campaigns to increase member experience
- To create an impact on the industry
