The first Council Meeting for the year took place on 22 January at the SAICE House, Midrand. A significant event on the SAICE calendar, Council Meetings are where major decisions are made regarding policies and strategies governing the institution in line with its mission and objectives. Council members along with SAICE office bearers engaged in excellent debate regarding the enhancing of the Institution’s services to its members. The meeting included SAICE CEO Manglin Pillay, SAICE immediate past-President Peter Kleynhans, as well as SAICE 2014 President Stanford Mkhacane.
Mr Mkhacane, who chaired his first Council Meeting as President of SAICE expressed his contentment with the proceedings and outcomes of the gathering. “The positive spirit displayed by council members regarding pertinent issues deliberated as well as their willingness and commitment to resolving them effectively and amicably makes for an exciting year, says Mr Kleynhans.
The gathering was said to be history in the making, as council members were able to engage in a healthy and very respectful debate on issues that historically many had been averse to.
The first Council Meeting for 2014 has set the tone for a new era for SAICE and the engineering fraternity at large.
