4 May 2021 Civil Engineering Reinforced Earth® is a composite structure comprising selected backfill, claddings and reinforcements. The reinforcements sup- plied by RESA are divided into two catego- ries: inelastic strips and elastic straps. Each of these categories has specific advantages and disadvantages and RESA considers both for the design of all structures. INELASTIC REINFORCEMENTS Inelastic reinforcements have the fol- lowing advantages: 1. Local production – two types of inelastic strips supplied by RESA are produced in South Africa, namely: Q Q HA – high adherence, medium tensile steel, hot dip galvanised Q Q HAR – high adherence, padded, medium tensile steel, hot dip galvanised. 2. Stiffness and ductility Q Q 210 GPa stiffness before yield and > 20% elongation after yield Q Q Mobilisation of shear throughout the entire length of the reinforcing On the cover Reinforced Earth® walls – anywhere and everywhere! Customised Reinforced Earth® designs incorporate state-of-the-art reinforcing strips and straps. Reinforced Earth South Africa (RESA) has supplied HA and HAR reinforcing strips to 25 African countries over the past 45 years.
