It was with much fanfare and celebration that Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) opened the doors to the SANLAM/SAICE office at its Civil engineering faculty on 3 March 2014. The office is proudly sponsored by SANLAM and only the second in the country, with another having been opened a few years ago at the University of Kwa-Zulu-Natal (UKZN) Howard College Campus.
This momentous event was attended by a host of guests, including SAICE President Stanford Mkhacane, CEO Manglin Pillay as well as Bev van Nijkerk representing SANLAM. Also in attendance to witness the event were lecturers and students including the NMMU Student Chapter members and Chairperson Litha Peters, who expressed their excitement over the increase of SAICE’s presence amongst the university community.
CEO of SAICE Manglin Pillay aired his gratitude to SANLAM for their donation, which had made the existence of the office possible. Pillay added that it is the vision of SAICE that every university in South Africa has access to their very own SAICE office, which will function as a direct contact point for student members at the local level.
SAICE is pleased about this new development which will contribute to effectively servicing membership throughout the university.
