Dear Steering Committee
It gives us great pleasure to announce that the draft Identification of Engineering Work Regulations was approved by the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) at their Council meeting held on 17 March 2014.
Subsequently the CBE has applied for an exemption with the Competition Commission (CC).
The next step would be for the CC to investigate the application and in the process consult widely with interested parties. The CC consultation process will provide an opportunity for different views to be raised.
The CBE cannot confirm when the consultation process will commence. The manner and form in which the consultations will be taking place is unclear. The CC may change the way in which the consultations will take place as they have learned from the consultations with the other Built Environment Councils.
Should the CC want to consult with the IDoEW SC, it may be feasible that the SC nominates representatives from the committee as the CC may not want to meet with the whole committee. This is something that would need to be considered once we know how the CC wants to take the process forward.
The consultation with the other Councils was to take place over a period of 1 year. This again may change and is in the hands of the CC.
We confirm that the meeting of 14 April 2014 has been cancelled till further notice.
We will keep you abreast of developments.
We thank you for the commitment and dedication you brought to this project.
