Every year, on Mandela Day, people around the world celebrate the legacy of a phenomenal man by devoting 67 minutes of their time – one minute for every year of Mr Mandela’s public service. Madiba frequently stated that he does not want a legacy cast in copper, concrete or marble, no monuments or highways, but a living legacy of volunteerism and service.
SAICE embraced Madiba’s values and honoured his legacy on 18 July by bringing a smile to the faces of over 60 children at the Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre. This orphanage and day-care acts as a place of safety for Alexandra’s abandoned, abused and neglected children.
Arriving with hot cheesy pizza, goodie packs, and arts and craft items for the day care, we were greeted with cheers and hugs. An endless feeling of love and hope created an ambiance which we are confident will stay with them for a long time.
We would like to extend a heartful thanks to the children and care givers at Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre for warming our hearts with your smiles.
