SAICE’s Johannesburg Branch celebrated Women’s Month in style with their second Women in Hard Hats event that took place on 31 August 2017. This year’s event included a magnificent High Tea and was held at the Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate in Midrand.

The Master of Ceremonies was S’thandazile Ncube who represented the SAICE Johannesburg Branch.

The event opened with Teniel Ramjogi, Regional Manager: Gauteng, for the BMK Group who provided an insight into the importance of ECSA Professional Registration and the value of mentorship in one’s career. Ntebo Ngcobo – BTech: Transport Eng, MBA, the HOD of Civil Engineering Technology at the University of Johannesburg, highlighted the importance of discipline and consistency in one’s personal and business career.

During the second session of the event Danai Magugumela – PrEng, MSc Eng (Civil), the Managing Director of Bosch Projects gave a talk entitled: Of course you can have it all! My personal career journey. Next up was young engineer Bridgette Kerst, who is an Associate/Senior Structural Engineer, Industrial Projects, at Arup. She spoke about: Climbing in and getting dirty! Marelize Visser – PrEng, CEng, MEng, AIStructE, MSAICE, the owner of TMV Consulting and Design, and Chairperson of the Joint Structural Division was also present. Marelize’s presentation gave an overview on structural engineering excellence.

The event was well attended by 100 ladies, including students from WITS, and the University of Johannesburg, who all took the opportunity to interact with the more experienced professionals that had attended the event.
