SAICE thrives on a core of committed members – some close to National Office and some far away. It is an absolute pleasure to see the more remote branches still thriving – and some of them producing Presidents of the Institution.

The Lowveld Branch in Mbombela suffers from the same challenges which seemingly all regions do – and yet last year, local member, Errol Kerst became President. So, it was a pleasure for us to pay a swift visit to a Branch Meeting and follow-up meetings with local consultants. Chairman, Nico Swanepoel and his Vice Chairman – Jonathan Ntsabo,  Secretary – Nokuthula Linda Kutshwa and Treasurer – Terrence Nkabinde are keeping SAICE active in the region and we are grateful for that.

SAICE’s new strategy Growing Forward Together is intended to support civil engineers, wherever they may be in South Africa. This new approach is intended to add more structure and focus across every Branch and Division.

SAICE recognises the need to develop much more diverse and inclusive intiatives , as well as the  need to focus more attention on  younger members with targeted services and benefits aimed at each age category. Growing Forward Together addresses many of the issues that were  discussed at the Lowveld branch meeting. Led by deeply committed members and staff this strategy is a work in progress. It belongs to all of you.  If you want to play a role in its development, we urge you to step forward – give us your feedback, volunteer to lead or assist in any of the initiatives you are passionate about.

– after all, what is life without passion.
