The 16th National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF)-BHP Billiton Awards took place earlier this month, at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Outstanding contributions within the fraternity of science were acknowledged and celebrated amidst 600 attendees, including special guest of honour, Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor.
Amongst many of the country’s leading science and technology innovators, was the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), lead by Professer JE (Kobus) van Zyl, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, at the University of Cape Town. SAICE was one of six finalists in the category of an outstanding contribution to science, engineering, technology and innovation (SETI) through communication for outreach and creating awareness over the last 5 years.
