SAICE Division chairs and vice chairs met with CEO Manglin Pillay and COO Steven Kaplan on 24 February 2016 at SAICE National Office in Midrand. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues pertaining to the better servicing of members using the available divisional resources and capacity. In attendance were Trevor Green, Chairperson of the Geotechnical Division along with division Secretary Solly Phalandwa. Also in attendance were Jabu Mahlangu Chairperson of the Environmental Division as well as Marelize Visser Chairperson of the Joint Structural Division. Joining in the meeting via teleconference were Robin Chetty and Jarendra Reddy, Chair and Vice Chair of the Transportation Division.
Plans are underway to introduce a new list of technical courses which allow for a broader variety both traditionally and online. The idea establishing University and University of Technology rules and codes of ‘good practice’ was discussed at length. The chairs further explored the idea of identifying principal specialists within their respective divisions. These specialists would act as a formal advisory body to SAICE offering technical support as and when required.
Overall, the chairs reiterated their firm commitment and passion to serve on their Divisions and SAICE looks forward to their active participation.
