Good news! The long-dormant Vaal Branch of SAICE is formally active again! During the presidential visit of Peter Kleynhans, 2013 SAICE president, and Manglin Pillay, SAICE CEO, to the Vaal Branch a number of members put their names forward to participate in the branch activities. A democratically elected committee consisting of a chairperson, chairperson-elect, secretary, treasurer and a PR person was chosen. The chairperson is Nkululeko Xulu.

The committee’s focus will be to engage with the five local municipalities in the area and to establish closer ties with the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) with the support of Professor Ndege, the dean for engineering at the VUT.

The new Student Chapter was also established formally. Under the chairmanship of Seane … the new Chapter and its students with their tremendous potential, could really change the students’ lives. Professor Ndege has already planned events for the students this year. These events include hosting the YMP Road-show, a Careers Fair Day, as well as a site visit to the Gautrain.

The relationship between the Branch, the Student Chapter and SAICE national office is clear to all.

The Branch will meet again on 12 September followed by meetings on the last Thursday of every month. The Branch secretary will forward the names of the committee members to SAICE national office, as well as providing national office with the minutes after each monthly meeting.

SAICE wishes both the Vaal Branch and the Student Chapter great success in all their endeavours.

  1. I am particularly delighted to have a Vaal Saice Branch and I wish success to the branch in their endeavours.

    Alain L.

  2. Congratualtions to the efforts of Nkululeko for reviving the Vaal branch. May SAICE move from strength to strength.
