SAICE’s first Education and Training (E&T) meeting for the year kicked off on 9 February 2015. In attendance, was Tom McKune (E&T Chair), Francis Legge (Council Member), Oliver Rowe, Kobus du Plessis (IMESA), Philip Marsh (Mentoring 4 Success), Fannie Matumba (Protec), Vishal Krishandutt (Nyeleti), Alain Jacquet (ICE–SA Secretary), Steven Kaplan (SAICE COO), Cheryl-Lee Williams (SAICE E&T Officer), Dawn Hermanus (SAICE E&T Officer), Margie Rigby (Section 21), Fridah Mahlangu (SAICE Career Guidance – SPEBS) and Willandri Louw (SAICE Marketing).

A new development included online course bookings on the SAICE website. Members will now be able to book and pay for a particular course with just a simple click of a button.

In addition, the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) Civils prompted SAICE to assist in finding “new blood” to enhance the existing hardworking members and to provide continuity – as circumstances prevent some long serving members from continuing with this valuable work. The PAC is responsible for managing the registration process for the Professional Engineer category at ECSA. If you have been registered as a professional engineer for at least ten (10) years and would like to volunteer to serve on PAC Civils please advise Dawn Hermanus (dawn@saice.org.za) so we can submit your name to PAC for consideration.

The second area where SAICE plays a vital role in the registration process, is that of reviewers. SAICE has been conducting Professional Reviews on behalf of ECSA for many years. Many of our long standing reviewers have now retired, and the increase in workload due to the number of applications being received by ECSA, is making the process more and more challenging. SAICE now urgently needs to recruit more reviewers to assist with the reviewing process.

Members who feel that they can contribute to this process should please contact Dawn Hermanus at dawn@saice.org.za
