Earlier this week the SAICE Presidential delegation visited the University of the Witwatersrand. Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed at the reception of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering by Head of School, Professor Akpofure Taigbenu. SAICE CEO Manglin Pillay and 2017 President Sundran Naicker thereafter made their way to the Hillman Building Lecture Hall to formally address Faculty Staff and students. The one hour interactive session was led by the President who had drafted eight pertinent questions for students to provide solutions to. The students were then divided into eight groups, with each group tackling one question for approximately 10 minutes.
Students then presented their solutions to staff and the SAICE delegation which showcased innovative, creative and strategic thinking. The President then answered various questions and provided clarity on matters such as professional registration and specialist areas of civil engineering.
The visit ended with a networking lunch session between, staff, the SAICE delegation and the Wits student chapter committee at the Hillman Building tea room.
