The water projects she has been involved in include bulk water design, pumpstation design and the management of reservoir and tower construction projects. The roads and stormwater projects she has worked on include the de- sign and management of a 36 km road and associated stormwater infrastructure and various township development projects. She is a highly skilled professional who is passionate about improving, designing and implementing infrastructure in less advantaged communities, similar to the one she grew up in. Thabo Ncala, Pr Techni Eng, Pr Tech Eng Marketing and communications, and industry outreach portfolios Thabo has construction site manage- ment, project management, and design skills for both water and sanitation infrastructure, including pump stations. He has 20 years’ working experience in the civil engineering industry. Thabo currently works for the eThekwini Municipality Water and Sanitation Unit’s Technical Customer Services Branch as the manager for the eThekwini Water Inspectorate Section. His duties include management of staff, performance and resources; ensuring effective and efficient communication between cus- tomers and his unit regarding technical issues; ensuring pressure management in the water supply system by conducting pressure and flow tests where necessary; communication with external engineers and developers on issues pertaining to new water con- nections; implementation and revision of water supply by-laws; application of water policies and regulations, etc. Lynesha Pillai Social media portfolio Lynesha is a civil technologist with 10 years’ experience in water and wastewater resource management. Her technical knowledge is expansive, having worked within the mining, agricultural, municipal, private and industrial sectors. Her current interests are in water infor- matics, water policy, and financing of water projects. Sayed I A Sayed Ally, Pr Tech Eng SAICE representative on SABS TC on water efficiency for buildings Sayed is a civil engineering professional with 18 years’ experience in water and sanitation and internal building wet services. He is a director and founder of ALLYCIV, providing consulting engi- neering services with specialisation in building wet services design (plumbing design). Peter Ronald Ashbrook Flower, Pr Eng Corresponding member Peter is an independent consultant pro- viding consulting and advisory services locally and internationally in the fields of bulk and municipal water engineering, and water resource and services manage- ment, often with a focus on drought response management. He recently retired as Director of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department, after leading the department successfully through the recent three-year drought, the worst recorded drought in well over 100 years. He has over 40 years of experience in the water sector, mostly at the City of Cape Town where he was involved with and responsible for the planning and development of the bulk water supply infrastructure for the Greater Cape Town area since the late 1970s. Wiero Jan Vogelzang, Pr CPM, Pr Eng, COREN Corresponding member Wiero is the managing director of Arcus GIBB Nigeria and managing director of PWO GIBB. Wiero specialises in the pro- ject management, design and implementa- tion of large urban and rural projects with a focus on bulk water supply and sanitation schemes, and stormwater master planning and design. Some of the flagship projects he has worked on include the Mauritius and Port Harcourt Water Master Plans, Port Harcourt Water, Sanitation and Stormwater Masterplans and implementa- tion, and acting as Owner’s Engineer for the Millennium Challenge Corporation in Mozambique water projects. Debbie Besseling Debbie is the technical divisions admin- istrator for a number of SAICE divisions. She has extensive experience in public relations, communications, and pub- lishing, specialising in the more technical fields of civil engineering and the mining sector. Debbie works on numerous port- folios for the SAICE Water Engineering Division, including events management, membership, awards, as well as marketing and communications. She was the editor of the publication that was produced for the Water Engineering Division’s 50 th celebration in 2015.
