42 June 2022 Civil Engineering SANCOLD MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE SANCOLD has welcomed two new members appointed to the SANCOLD Management Committee. Dr Jeanine Vonkeman was elected to an under 35 position, while Henry- John Wright and Guy Robertson were re-elected to the committee. Dr Louis Coetzee was co-opted to a vacant posi- tion. Janice Zhang takes over as the new Chairperson of the Young Person’s Forum. 2021 SANCOLD CONFERENCE After not holding a SANCOLD Conference in 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19 and subsequent lockdown, we were very pleased to be able host some 167 delegates at our 2021 SANCOLD Conference at the Maslow Conference Centre in Pretoria on 3 and 4 November 2021. The theme of the Conference was, “Resilient dams in a chal- lenging environment”. The technical presentations were of the usual high calibre and showed renewed interest in live in-person events. The two-day format included the SANCOLD AGM, a Young Person’s Forum (YPF) social event and a confer- ence gala dinner at which SANCOLD Awards were presented. Katy O’Brien re- ceived the YPF Best Presentation Award. SANCOLD Awards are presented to individuals in recognition of outstanding contributions to dam engineering in Southern Africa. It has been some time since the last SANCOLD Awards were presented, and in 2021 we recognised the contributions made by: Q Q Alan Chemaly Q Q Duncan Grant-Stuart Q Q Kelvin Legge Q Q Beason Mwaka Q Q Pieter Wessels SANCOLD is planning to hold its 2022 annual conference in Gauteng in early November under the theme, “New trends and developments of dams inter nationally”. A call for paper abstracts will be issued shortly.
