Civil Engineering June 2022 43 with arrangements for holding ICOLD conferences. Every three years ICOLD holds a congress which is an expanded event. This year, the much postponed 27 th ICOLD Congress and 90 th Annual Meeting was held in Marseilles, France from 27 May to 3 June. In addition to the usual four chosen questions as the themes for congress papers, there was also a symposium titled, “Sharing water: multi purposes of reservoirs and innovations”. A delegation of 10 SANCOLD members attended the international event. SANCOLD is represented on 20 of the ICOLD Technical Committees which produce bulletins of good practice on technical issues. These bulletins cover all aspects relating to dams and are made available to the industry. The bulletins and other relevant documents are avail- able to SANCOLD members at no cost. Our congratulations to SANCOLD Chairperson Dr Quentin Shaw who has been nominated as ICOLD Vice-President for Africa, which was confirmed at the Marseilles Annual Meeting. SANCOLD FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR POST-GRADUATE STUDIES 2022 As general support to research into as- pects around dams, SANCOLD continues to support two post-graduate students in 2022, who will each receive R50 000 to supplement their studies. There were four applicants from three universities vying for the scholar- ship and the wide scope and level of research proposals was high, making adjudication difficult. The awards went to Caitlin Heidbreder from Stellenbosch University with her MSc research proposal on fishway hydraulic designs at river abstrac- tion works’ weirs and flow gauge station weirs under Prof. Gerrit Basson, and to Udhav Maharaj from the University of KwaZulu-Natal who will complete his PhD on “Improved Performance and Development of a Framework for Uncertainty Estimation for Design Flood Estimation Models in South Africa: SCS-SA Model Case Study” guided by Prof. Jeff Smithers.  Dr Beason Mwaka Dr Pieter Wessels Katy O’Brien receives YPF Best Presentation Award from SANCOLD Chairperson Dr Quentin Shaw Caitlin Heidbreder Udhav Maharaj
