SAICE welcomes SANRAL’s decision to withdraw proposed Preferen al Procurement Policy

26 October 2023: The South African Ins tu on of Civil Engineering (SAICE) welcomes the decision by the South African Na onal Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) to withdraw its
proposed Preferen al Procurement Policy and associated tender scoring system. We commend both the industry’s steadfastness on this issue and SANRAL’s demonstra on of prudence in the best interests of the na on.

As representa ves of approximately 15,000 members in the civil engineering community, and recognizing the substan al efforts needed to drive economic recovery in our country, we
strongly support this decision. The nega ve impact of the proposed Preferen al Procurement Policy on the civil engineering industry, the economy, and the South African popula on cannot be overstated.

Furthermore, SANRAL has expressed its commitment to ini ate an inclusive engagement process involving the construc on industry and all relevant stakeholders to address cri cal transforma onal impera ves within the sector. We are dedicated to collaborate with
