Fire Engineering

Fire Engineering is the professional organization that includes fire protection engineers, fire safety engineers, fire engineers, and allied professionals in the pursuit of a fire safe world.
Jocelyn Evans
Designation: Chair
Email: jocelyn@hofmanevans.co.za

Fire Engineering

A Fire Protection Engineer is an individual who, by formal training and professional experience, carries the necessary competency, and has the skills to provide guidance and direction to protect life, property and environment from threats posed by fire and its related mechanism. (SFPE)

Fire Engineering is a relatively new formally recognised speciality field of engineering in South Africa. Although having found a learned institution home within SAICE, it’s acknowledged and appreciated that our engineering base qualifications in South Africa span Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and others with many roads leading here. Regardless of starting point or stage of your journey, please join us in our effort to elevate the local technical competency in Fire Engineering and build an ethos of accountability and professionalism within our critical industry for both public safety and economic sustainability.

Geotechnical

Promoting expertise in the field of soil mechanics and foundation engineering, and working with engineering geologists in the allied field of rock mechanics.
John Pavlakis
Designation: Chair

Geotechnical

Rooted in African soil!

The purpose is to promote co-operation amongst scientists and engineers, to encourage the interchange of knowledge and ideas, to disseminate the results of research work or innovative construction techniques in the field of soil mechanics and foundation engineering, and to foster the application of safe, economic, practical and modern geotechnical methods in South Africa. These aims are achieved by active participation in affairs of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, by assisting in the organisation of the regional conferences and symposia, by arranging meetings throughout the year at various centres in the country, as well as educational courses for practising engineers, and the publication of a newsletter. Close ties are maintained with engineering geologists as well as those specialists in the allied field of rock mechanics.

ICE-SA

This division represents the interests of the SAICE as well as the Institution of Civil Engineers UK.
Ian Massey
Designation: Chair

ICE-SA

This division represents the interests of the SAICE as well as the Institution of Civil Engineers UK.
SAICE and the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) have a joint committee to co-ordinate the services to members between the two institutions.

ICE-SA promotes the civil engineering profession by ensuring that everybody understands the positive impact that civil engineers have on society.

Information Technology

To promote the science and art of the use of electronic computers in the field of civil engineering by the dissemination of information.
Peter Webb
Designation: Chair

Marine

The Marine Division is about working in the coastal environment as a civil engineering discipline.

The Marine Division supports the science and practice of port, harbour, coastal and ocean engineering and the professional endeavors of civil engineers working in these fields. The division seeks to advance and promote an understanding of the coast and address coastal issues that are of critical importance to the country. In general it promotes communication between members by regular meetings, seminars and symposia and by bringing international conferences to South Africa.

Project Management & Construction

To promote civil engineering through the contribution of sound project management principles.
Hamish Riddet
Designation: Chair
Email: Hamish.riddet@gmail.com

Project Management & Construction

The purpose is to promote civil engineering through the contribution of sound project management principles, thereby bridging the gap between “creators of value and society”. This division informs SAICE members about issues relating to SACPCMP and facilitates an understanding of construction and project management philosophies related to engineering principles and practices.

Railway & Harbour Engineering
